Jay discovered CrossFit in 2009 when his “friend” Dave Lipson crippled him with the Filthy Fifty, and knew there was no turning back. As a former competitive triathlete and a private running and triathlon coach, Jay quickly saw how effective CrossFit workouts would be, both in the gym and on improving performance in any sport. After experiencing the benefits first hand, he incorporated private CrossFit training into his athletes programming. In late 2011 he became an assistant coach at CrossFit Virtuosity while continuing to work at New York Sports Med and Physical Therapy as a PT Aide.

Jay has been athletic most of his life. Growing up he was a swimmer, diver and water polo player. He competed in Club Water Polo for FSU. In 2002 he took on the sport of triathlon, focusing on the XTERRA off-road circuit and was sponsored to race all over the US, Japan and Europe for the 2005-06 seasons. Jay loved learning about how the human body works, and how individuals can achieve incredible feats through hard work. He has a knowledge- and information-based coaching style and seeks to empower his athletes to take control of their own training. Jay is thankful and excited for the opportunity to share his unique training background with the members of CrossFit Gantry.

Jay has achieved the distinction of CrossFit Level 3 Certified trainer. He is one of only six in the New York area.

Christina has been involved in fitness for over 20 years, longer than she’d like to admit. She studied dance for many years and found her first love, Pilates, which she has been teaching since 2001. After running a few marathons and practicing yoga, she found herself looking for a more exciting, all encompassing strength and conditioning platform. In 2010 she discovered CrossFit, during which time her main goal was to beat her husband Jay during wods. Immediately drawn to the intensity of CrossFit, as well as the skills and strength that are needed for the gymnastics and weightlifting components, Christina became consumed by the desire to get better. She qualified and competed at Regionals as an individual athlete in 2011 and 2012. In 2013, she joined Kylee on Team Dynamix, winning the North East Regionals and placing 5th at the 2013 CrossFit Games.

These days, Christina’s fitness goals are less competitive and more focused on staying strong, moving well and having fun in the gym, while chasing after her clients and baby.

Her primary goal for athletes of all ages is to help people move and feel better. She draws from an extremely wide range of exercise vocabulary and is capable of designing workouts for complete novices, injured athletes, as well as aspiring CrossFitters of all ages. Her hands on approach and no nonsense attitude have earned her the title of Crossfit police at the gym.

Bryan found CrossFit in 2010 and immediately fell in love with its competitive nature, it’s intensity, and the community atmosphere. He was always athletic and gravitated toward team sports, playing football in high school and rugby in college – and post-college – while earning a degree in biology and neuroscience. Bryan spent four years on active duty in the Army as a scout sniper in Fort Drum, NY and served overseas in Bosnia from 1999 to 2000. After a couple of years of CrossFitting, Bryan became a coach at CrossFit Virtuousity and has developed a hands-on style of coaching with an emphasis on keeping people injury free. Bryan has a special place in his heart for hero WODs.

Kylee began CrossFit in September of 2010. Within a very short period she was hooked. She went on to compete in her first competition in February of 2011 taking 1st Place at “Hail To The Queen.” Despite her nerves during competition….Kylee decided to compete as an individual at the CrossFit NorthEast Regionals in 2011 where she came in 6th place after only CrossFitting for a few short months. Kylee continued competing in local competitions as an individual and would finish in 1st Place at the TriState Throwdown as well as the Philadelphia Winter Warmer. As Kylee grew as a CrossFit athlete, she decided that she wanted to compete on a team as well as incorporate her talent as a Singer/Songwriter into the performing mix somehow!! So that’s exactly what she did and in 2013 Kylee joined Team Dynamix and they won the CrossFit NorthEast Regionals and placed 5th the 2013 CrossFit Games in Carson, California. Kylee was excited to be asked to kick off the events by singing the National Anthem at Regionals that year as well as the following year. She was honored to be the Captain of Dynamix and they went on to win the 2014 CrossFit NorthEast Regionals and place 16th at the 2014 CrossFit Games!

Kylee has been a proud Coach since November 2010. She is so grateful to have Athletes trust her with their fitness goals as she helps them break through obstacles that have challenged her so much along the way. “It’s not just the physical, but the emotional and mental strength that must be pushed and fed to prepare an athlete to do amazing things. I know my strength is not my own…but it’s God given and that’s what gets me through the nerves and feeling weak…I KNOW that He keeps me strong,” Kylee says, as she motivates other athletes that wonder what her experience has taught her thusfar!!!

When Becky found CrossFit in 2012, she was, to be kind, a rather un-athletic individual. Emerging from a childhood of asthma, chronic knee dislocations, and a lifetime of being a klutz, Becky grew up being told to never lift weights or run. Joining CrossFit as a method to fix herself, her knees and back have been pain- and noise-free for the last 3 years. She gets disproportionately overexcited anytime she PR's her squat and placed 2nd in her age division the first time she ran a 5k.

Despite being discouraged from sports, Becky was a competitive horseback rider as a teenager, and she also has a background both as a riding and swim instructor. As an avid cyclist, Becky did a stint as a bike messenger in NYC and has cycled around both Iceland and Tasmania. Becky got into triathlons fairly recently and would have placed 2nd in the 'Athena' division at the 2015 NYC tri had she actually remembered to register for that division. Becky competes in Kettlebell sport and currently has her CMS ranking; asking her about kettlebells is a guaranteed way to lose 20 minutes of your life, minimum.

As a coach Becky focuses on mobility and kinesiology, and she particularly loves difficult cases where she can make as big a difference in someone else's life as was made in hers. Becky does a variety of bodywork; she's certified in Thai massage, yoga for athletes, has studied various stretching and myofascial release methods, soft tissue release, and trigger point therapy. She is also a neuro-skeletal practitioner, which is a type of screen to check and reactivate any muscles that may not be firing properly. She combines all of these in varying degrees depending on your needs during a 60-minute bodywork or 30-minute 'tune-up' session.

Growing bored of the globo gym experience, Devin found CrossFit in 2011 through the main site and he and a friend decided to try the workouts on their own. He has been actively involved in athletics most of his life. In high school Devin played soccer, basketball and baseball and was a four-year starter on the NYU-Poly baseball team in college. As a senior he was selected to the Skyline All-Conference Team, won the Skyline Conference batting title, hitting .432, and was voted MVP. After completing his career as a player, Devin had interest in sharing his knowledge with other athletes and joined the NYU-Poly coaching staff as an assistant. And within less than a year of starting to do WODs he became an assistant coach at CrossFit Virtuosity. Devin wants to help athletes improve their overall performance—whether in sport or in life—by helping them improve each movement. Devin has made great strides at becoming a better athlete since following CrossFit training methodologies and his only regret is that he didn’t discover it sooner!
