Gantry Powerlifting

The main focus of the Gantry Powerlifting program is strength.

Of the ten general physical skills as defined by CrossFit, strength transfers the most to all other modalities; endurance, stamina, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, accuracy, agility and balance will all improve with increased strength.

Powerlifting, like other forms of heavy resistance training, strengthens your skeleton and reduces your risk of injury in other sports activities.

Gantry Powerlifting uses the four major lifts: the squat, bench press, deadlift and press, to develop the body's major muscle groups of your legs, back and upper body. You will perform ancillary movements in combination with the four lifts week to week to reach your strength goals. Every workout builds on the previous workout with the goal of getting you stronger over time.

In every class you will benefit from one-on-one coaching along with the energy of a group-training atmosphere. The bottom line is if you show up and follow the program you will get stronger.

Pete Troupos
Pete grew up in the Washington, D.C. area and competed multiple sports.  Athletics was an integral part of his youth but, as with most folks, there was less time for athletics later on and he his fitness waned as a result.  Pete found CrossFit in 2013 and loved the training, but felt he was limited by a lack of strength.  He stumbled on Starting Strength as a result and immediately realized that he wanted to become a Starting Strength Coach.  After working in retail for 18 years, Pete applied himself to studying the basic barbell lifts and coaching whomever he could.  Having opportunities to study under senior staff Mike Wolf and Brent Carter for two years, he prepared himself to earn the coaching credential.  Pete’s belief is that strength is the most general of adaptations and the attribute that makes everything other task easier, whether it be athletics or living and independent life.  He’s committed to making folks stronger, and helping folks move weight they never thought was possible is what drives him.
